DVD Avenue Review
DVD Avenue as the name suggests is primarily a DVD rental service that also offers some video game titles. It is an easy, convenient and cost effective way to watch movies and to play video games. They rent video games only for the Playstation (PSX), PlayStation (PS2) and XBox. Games for the original PlayStation platform which are not that easy to find in these fast evolving times are an attraction for those who still prefer this old console.
Feature set:
There are no due dates or late fees. You can keep 1, 2, 3, or 4 DVDs on hand depending on your rental plan. There are no shipping charges either and two-way free shipping is available like all such stores. There are rental plans to suit all types of viewers and the subscription can be cancelled anytime. You can create a list of movie titles you wish to rent and they are shipped to you in that order on return of your rental DVDs.
Video game selection:
DVD Avenues a vast choice of movies to choose from. They have close to 25000 titles ranging from the very latest to some very popular old classics. It is one of the few stores to have adult DVDs on their list as well. The selection as far as games are concerned is however, not as wide ranging either in terms of platforms or in the number of games available under each. They do have some choices for the Xbox and PS2 consoles but they are limited, around 650, when compared to the options available at other such sites.
Search capabilities:
The website is not very easy to navigate and can be confusing at times. Movies can be searched by Title, Actor, Director or Synopsis. One can browse through latest movies separately as well.
Video Game Arrival Time:
The DVD Rentals are sent Via First-Class Mail. They have just one distribution center at Maryland and so shipping times depend on the proximity of your location from there. Movies on your list are dispatched as soon as rentals are returned but shipping time is quite high. There is no tie up with the postal department for quicker turnaround times like that of GameFly.
Available Plans:
DVD Avenue subscription plans start at $9.99 per month. There are four DVD rental plans to choose from, plans vary according to the number of DVDs you wish to rent at a time. They have five different payment plans for game rentals, so you can rent from two to eight different video games at a time.
Summary:
DVD Avenue is an average option even if renting movies is the primary objective. The qualtiy of the movies is not exceptional and their customer support also leaves a lot to be desired. For avid gamers there are other rental stores that can cater to their gaming needs much better. This is a cost effective option for all types of DVD rentals and for gamers using the original Play Station.
